In The Zone - Episode 3

'In The Zone' is the regular magazine show broadcast across the galaxy on the subspace wavelength on 92.2SUS and can be picked up on any SUB radio system, streamed via smartterminals, subdermal receivers and direct brain implants.

Hosted by Jim Wiezbowski, long standing DSPN sports anchor and regular co-host Mike Spunkmeyer they discuss all the matches, news and rumours of the recent E/WSAPD action.

Joined by adventurous Sphyr roving reporter An'aka Rez'nik who sometimes gets in a little over her hammerhead and joined by weekly special guests, 'In The Zone' is the last word in the league action.

JW: It's that time again, I'm Jim Wiezbowski.

MS: And I'm Mike Spunkmeyer.

JW: And this is In The Zone.  We've got three games this week to go through.  Where shall we start Mike?

MS: I want to talk about the Endorian Forest United Squad.  I know we've spoken about them a lot, but this match I think represented a turning point for them.

JW: They got hammered again Mike.

MS: I know that Jim, but in the second half they changed their tactics, they began to group around the Turion City Terrors and delivered some great steals and even some slams that brought down some of the Terratons.  They even scored.

JW: And what a strike it was by Zira, a four pointer.

MS: Right Jim, but it wasn't an individual strike, they were working together and was it my imagination or did they seem quicker this week?

JW: They did Mike, word is they were working on fitness all week and it showed.  But, do you think they're out of trouble?

MS: No way Jim, they're in deep trouble their strike difference is -17 and I can't see them winning a match but at least they seemed to have some ideas on how to play.

JW: What about the Turions?

MS: Well they're very strong at the moment, they not fast but they're strong and we saw their teleporting briefly today, I wonder if that comes into play more in the future.  But I've got them in my tip list for team of the season.

JW: Well we're going to go live to our roving report An'aka Rez'Nik now who seems to be in a sticky situation.  An'aka, tell us what's going on?

AR: (nervous) Well Jim I'm here at the Ceres Correctional Centre to talk to the Ceres Convict Cadre, hotly tipped to be entering the league next season and it's all got a little heated here.

JW: Is that a gun being held to your head?

AR: Yeah, a fricking big gun Jim.  The Cadre have broken out of their cells and have run amok and I'm their hostage.  They say that if they don't get guaranteed entrance into the league they're going to blow my brains out.

MS: How is there training going An'aka?  Do they have good facilities on the base?

AR: Are you kidding me Mike?  They're got a god damn gun to my head…

[transmission cuts]

JW: Heh-heh, well I hope they sort things out soon or we'll have to find ourselves a new reporter.

MS: Those convicts have a great sense of humour.  Can't wait for them to be in the league.

JW: They seem a right good bunch of guys Mike.  Well onto the second match, the Mega City Eagles played the Daggon Moon Slammers.  First time we saw the Eagles in play, what did you make of them?

MS: They looked tight and organised,  but these so called 'Judges' were supposed to be highly trained tactical experts.  But I didn't get that impression, maybe they're warming up, but they didn't overwhelm the Orx.  As usually, the Daggon's used brute force and failed to capitalise, they lost, but it wasn't a white wash.

JW: Ones to watch?

MS: I think so Jim, but they need to stand out in the crowd and right now I can't say that they were any better than the other human teams.

JW: Last game was Clan Rapidclaw vs Ragnarr Delvers.

MS: You know Jim, Rapidclaw and Stormfang have surprised in pre-season, they're not the most technically skilled but they fast and they've got some muscle too and they were holding their own but the Delvers have some good strikers and the dwarfs know how to fight and they were just too powerful in the end.

JW: So predictions for the league Mike?

MS: It's early days Jim, but I'm going for Turion for the Western league, but the Eastern is too tight to call at the moment, we need more games, nobody has stood out yet.

JW: OK Mike, thanks for your company as always.

MS: It's a pleasure Jim.

JW: We'll be back soon and in the meantime, don't forget to check out the Mega Mech Ski-Jumping on our Winter Sports channel, two hundred tonnes of mech flying down a ski-jump, what more could you want?

MS: I'm heading over there now Jim.

JW: Goodnight folks.
