In The Zone - Episode 8

'In The Zone' is the regular magazine show broadcast across the galaxy on the subspace wavelength on 92.2SUS and can be picked up on any SUB radio system, streamed via smartterminals, subdermal receivers and direct brain implants.
Hosted by Jim Wiezbowski, long standing DSPN sports anchor and regular co-host Mike Spunkmeyer they discuss all the matches, news and rumours of the recent N/SE/W SAPD action.
Joined by adventurous Sphyr roving reporter An'aka Rez'nik who sometimes gets in a little over her hammerhead and joined by weekly special guests, 'In The Zone' is the last word in the league action.

JW: We're back folks, after a few months away in the off-season the Spiral Arm Premier Division is back and we've now got four divisions to watch over.  I'm Jim Wiezbowski.

MS: And I'm Mike Spunkmeyer

JW: How about it Mike, you had your fill of RoboCrab MMA?

MS: Sure have Jim, but you gotta hand it to those little RoboCrabs, they know how to fight.

JW: They sure do Mike, and you can catch the highlights still on the catch up TV, just search for Clawtastic.

MS: But it's sure good to get back to Dreadball, it's not been the same and what a trio of opening games we had.

JW: That's right Mike, the Western Division took center stage this week with the Thunder Brokkrs playing twice against last seasons finalist Atletico Tronkers and the new Philosophers, while their Dwarven cousins the Ragnarr Delvers faced off against newcomers Yun-Yuuzhan Warriors.  What did you pick out from the three games Mike?

MS: Well Jim, the Tronkers came out angry and mean, they pounded the Brokkr MVP into pieces on the pitch and they didn't mind breaking some of the rules.  That's a change in style for the Tronkers who usually relied on pace and skill, but this could be a new approach for the Tronkers.

JW: It was pretty chaotic, what did you make of the new video ref system?

MS: Well Jim, in my day you just got on with the game and if somebody fouled, you just got up and gave it back to them, if you could stand up of course...I remember in the 76 play-off when...

JW: Gotta jump in their Mike, seems we have a live update from An'aka Rez'Nik outside the Thunder Brokkrs stadium.

AR: Hi Jim, i'm outside Stone Fields and the furnaces have been turned on and burning high into the air, and this can only mean one thing.  The Miner's Guild who have controlling interest in the Brokkrs have made a decision about Gorim Ironbeard and we were given a press release just now confirming that the club and coach have parted company 'by non-mutual consent'.  The last time anybody saw Ironbeard he was being led into a team bus with concrete shoes on.

JW: Any news on a replacement?

AR: The Guild said they have a shortlist but will wait to make sure they appoint 'the right candidate' who 'shares their vision' for the club.  News has reached us the second team coach, Whubras Deepflayer is taking over as interim manager for the foreseeable future.

JW: Thanks An'aka.  Well Mike, that's the first casualty of the season.

MS: And it wasn't expected, the Brokkrs were 1 in 5 last season and that's not good enough for a club with that fanbase, they deserve better.

JW: Let's turn our attention to the new teams, what did you make of them?

MS: Well Jim, I thought the Philosophers were an interesting team, very tactical and their use of telekinesis is an interesting twist, not strictly against the rules because the rules don't say you can't use it.  Be interesting if the governing body make any changes.  But they lacked technical skills so a faster team might outplay them.

The Yun-Yuuzhan Warriors look nimble, but weak but they employed some clever tactics to get advantages.

JW: Some would call it cheating?

MS: People who don't play the game may say that, but when you play the game your expected to go to ground easily.

JW: So it's part of the game?

MS: It's part of the game in some places in the galaxy, we're bound to have that style of play spread.

JW: Interesting comments, and you can have your say on the 909 talk show later on where Mike will take your calls and debate with you the fans.

MS: Can't wait Jim...really, seriously, can't wait....

JW: It's a paycheck Mike, just remember that.

MS: I'm trying Jim.

JW: This is In The Zone and we'll be back with more news from the Spiral Arm Premier Division soon, I'm Jim Wiezbowski.

MS: And I'm Mike Spunkmeyer.

JW: Goodnight folks, stay safe out in those space lanes.
